NewJeans has once again proven their global popularity by setting another significant record in the Japanese music market.
According to the Japan Record Association on the 27th, NewJeans' single 'OMG' track 'Ditto' has surpassed a cumulative 300 million streams as of October 2025, earning the 'Triple Platinum' certification in the streaming category. NewJeans is the first K-Pop girl group to receive the 'Triple Platinum' certification in the streaming category. In total, only two artists in K-Pop hold this certification, showcasing NewJeans' music power.
Released on December 19, 2022, 'Ditto' is a song that combines Baltimore club dance sounds with NewJeans' unique sensibility, featuring dreamy humming, warm instrumental arrangements, and the members' soothing vocals. The song made a global impact by entering the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Top 100 just six months after its debut, and it set numerous records, including ranking first on the 2023 Melon annual chart in South Korea.
The popularity of 'Ditto' is also leading to long-term success in Japan. The song won 'Best K-Pop Song in Japan' at the 'Music Awards Japan 2025' held in May 2025, establishing itself as a representative K-Pop song beloved by local listeners. This highlights the strength of NewJeans' music, which is not just a one-time hit but leads to prolonged cumulative consumption.
In addition to 'Ditto', NewJeans has received 'Double Platinum' (over 200 million streams) certifications from the Japan Record Association for 'OMG' (August 2024) and 'Hype Boy' (August 2025), while three songs, 'ETA' (May 2024), 'Super Shy' (May 2024), and 'Attention' (August 2024), have each recorded 'Platinum' (over 100 million streams) certifications. Rather than being limited to a single hit, multiple songs are receiving consistent love, enhancing the competitiveness of the entire NewJeans catalogue in Japan.
Meanwhile, NewJeans is accelerating their activities following a recent contract dispute with their agency Ador, with the court ruling that the exclusive contract with NewJeans members is valid. After the Seoul Central District Court's ruling, members Haerin and Hyein officially confirmed their return to Ador on the 12th, while Minji, Danielle, and Hani also expressed their intention to return at staggered times. Ador stated, "We will fully support Haerin and Hyein's activities" and added, "We are coordinating individual meetings with the other members and will do our best for smooth discussions."
Achieving 'Triple Platinum' in Japan is seen as a signal that raises expectations for the results NewJeans will achieve in the global market when they resume their activities in the future.
