The group NewJeans has expressed their intention to return to their agency Ador, while proving their continued global popularity by surpassing 200 million streams on Spotify with their debut single in Japan, ‘Supernatural’.
According to Spotify on the 3rd (KST), NewJeans’ debut single album ‘Supernatural’ and its title track of the same name recorded 200,012,884 streams as of the 1st (KST). With this, NewJeans now has a total of 12 songs that have surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify.
Released in June last year (KST), ‘Supernatural’ is a New Jack Swing style song that highlights nostalgic emotions and the members’ smooth vocals. It not only topped major music charts in Japan immediately after its release but also gained widespread love by ranking high on music charts in Korea and other countries despite being a Japanese single.
Thanks to the popularity of ‘Supernatural’, NewJeans won the Excellence Award at the prestigious Japanese music awards, the 66th Japan Record Awards, held last year. At that time, the song was the only foreign artist song nominated in that category, reaffirming NewJeans’ unique status.
NewJeans’ streaming performance is also remarkable. So far, on Spotify, ‘OMG’ and ‘Ditto’ have surpassed 800 million streams, ‘Super Shy’ and ‘Hype Boy’ have surpassed 700 million streams, ‘Attention’ has surpassed 500 million streams, ‘New Jeans’ and ‘ETA’ have surpassed 400 million streams, and ‘Cookie’ has surpassed 300 million streams. ‘Hurt’, ‘Cool With You’, ‘How Sweet’, and ‘Supernatural’ have surpassed 200 million streams, while ‘ASAP’, ‘Get Up’, and ‘Bubble Gum’ have each recorded over 100 million streams. The total cumulative streams of all songs released by NewJeans on Spotify have exceeded 7 billion.
Meanwhile, in a recent lawsuit confirming the validity of the exclusive contract between NewJeans and Ador, the court ruled in favour of Ador, stating that the exclusive contract is valid. Immediately after the ruling, NewJeans expressed their intention to appeal, but on the 12th (KST), just a day before the appeal period, they shifted their stance to return to Ador.
Ador announced the return of members Haein and Hyein first through an official statement, and later Minji, Hani, and Danielle also expressed their intention to return to Ador, completing the five-member system of NewJeans once again.
