Reports have emerged that the American version of the Netflix series 'Squid Game', titled 'Squid Game: America', will begin filming next year.
U.S. media Collider reported on the 20th (local time) citing an updated list related to 'Squid Game' on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website, stating that 'Squid Game: America' is scheduled to start filming on February 26. This is the first specific schedule announced after several months of no news, drawing the attention of fans worldwide.
According to the report, cast information is still under wraps. However, it has been confirmed that Kate Blanchett's mysterious character, which drew attention at the end of 'Squid Game' Season 3, will not appear in the American version. Collider also predicted that the release of 'Squid Game: America' will be around the Christmas season of 2028.
Director David Fincher has once again been mentioned as the director. The media reported that "Fincher is expected to finish work on 'The Adventures of Cliff Booth' soon, and there is a possibility that his next project will be 'Squid Game: America'," indicating that while it is not officially confirmed, he is a strong candidate to take the helm.
The American version of 'Squid Game' has been the subject of various rumors centered around Hollywood. In particular, during the release of 'Squid Game' Season 3 last June, there were reports that filming for the American version would begin in December, with David Fincher producing and original director Hwang Dong-hyuk returning to direct, which generated significant buzz.
However, at that time, Director Hwang Dong-hyuk clarified in an interview, "I don't know how much of the reports are true, but the claims that filming will start in December and that I will direct have no basis." He added, "I like David Fincher. I think it would be really interesting if he made 'Squid Game'. If the production is confirmed and a directing request comes in, I would seriously consider it," leaving the door open for possibilities.
