According to Tving, 'Dear X' has ranked number one for three consecutive weeks on Viki in the U.S., according to FlixPatrol, a site that aggregates global online video service (OTT) viewing rankings. It also reached number one on Disney+ in Japan and achieved a peak position of number two through StarzPlay in the MENA region, gaining popularity across various areas. Domestically, it has recorded the highest number of new weekend subscribers on Tving for three consecutive weeks, playing a key role in the platform's growth.
'Dear X' is based on a popular webtoon of the same name, depicting the stories of 'X's who are brutally trampled by the top actress Baek Ah-jin (played by Kim Yoo-jung) who wears a mask only to reach the top. Even before its release, Kim Yoo-jung's drastic image transformation garnered attention, and as the drama unfolds, the relationships and psychological portrayals among the characters are gaining word-of-mouth popularity.
As of now, with eight episodes released, the tension has heightened as Yoon Jun-seo (played by Kim Young-dae) and Kim Jae-oh (played by Kim Do-hoon) experience anxiety watching Baek Ah-jin, who has started a public relationship with Heo In-gang (played by Hwang In-yeop). In particular, the scene where Heo In-gang's maternal grandmother Hong Kyung-sook (played by Park Seung-tae) notices Baek Ah-jin's true nature has further piqued curiosity about the subsequent developments.
The presence of Lee Yeol-eum, who plays Baek Ah-jin's senior actress Lena, is also notable. Lena oscillates between sharp hatred towards Baek Ah-jin, honest feelings towards Yoon Jun-seo, and playful chemistry with Kim Jae-oh, enhancing the tension of the drama. The emotional lines created by the intertwining characters are receiving positive reviews from viewers.
Meanwhile, 'Dear X' is Tving's first global venture, being simultaneously released on major overseas OTT platforms. It is being evaluated as a new model for the expansion of the domestic OTT industry, as Tving Original IP has officially entered the overseas market in collaboration with global platforms.
Composed of a total of 12 episodes, 'Dear X' is set to release episodes 9 and 10 on Tving on the 27th, with global viewers' attention focused on the unfolding climax.
