Jun, a member of the group SEVENTEEN, has been selected as the new face of the international film festival representing Hainan, China.
On November 26, HYBE Music Group's label Pledis Entertainment announced, "Jun has been chosen as the Youth Ambassador for the 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival." Jun will serve as a bridge connecting the audience and films during the festival, stepping beyond being a K-pop idol to become a promising young star in the Chinese film industry.
The 'Hainan International Film Festival' is a large film festival that involves filmmakers from around the world, and this year's event will be held from December 3 to 9 in Sanya, Hainan Province, China. This year alone, approximately 4,600 works from 119 countries and regions have been submitted, highlighting the global interest in the event. Jun is expected to participate in various official programs as the 'Youth Face' symbolizing this film festival, showcasing his presence.
Jun's selection as the festival ambassador has been bolstered by his recent filmography. He has made his official screen debut alongside top Chinese actors such as Jackie Chan (Cheng Long) and Tony Leung (Liang Zhaohui) in the film 'The Stormy Night.' This film will be released in major global cities following its local release in China, and Jun has been consecutively invited to the red carpets of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival and the 30th Busan International Film Festival, making a mark as an actor.
Jun's appearance in the Chinese historical drama 'Yun Gui Xi Shi' is also gaining attention as his next project. This work is set to be released on the Chinese OTT platform iQIYI, further raising expectations for Jun's activities as both a singer and an actor.
In fact, Jun's acting career dates back to before his idol debut. He first appeared before audiences in the 2006 film 'The Wild Dog' and won the Best Newcomer Award from the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild the following year. He was nominated for the Best New Actor category at the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards, becoming the first Chinese child actor to receive such recognition, showcasing his acting talent from a young age.
In 2023, he won the Popularity Award at the Busan International Film Festival's Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards for the youth romance drama 'Exclusive Fairy Tale,' proving his competitiveness in the global OTT market. As Jun expands his career by simultaneously pursuing idol and acting activities, there is great interest in what new aspects he will show as the Youth Ambassador of the Hainan International Film Festival.
